MANILA – More commuters are using the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) trains almost two weeks after Metro Manila was placed under more relaxed Covid-19 Alert Level 2.In a televised interview on Thursday, MRT-3 OIC General Manager Eymard Eje said the MRT-3’s daily average ridership reached 142,000 passengers as its maximum passenger capacity was also raised to 70 percent.“Bago natin itinaas, nung nasa 30 percent capacity, nasa 126,000 po tayo (Before it was raised, when we were at 30 percent capacity, we were at 126,000),” Eje said.Despite the easing of minimum health standards in public transportation, he reminded the passengers that MRT-3 personnel will continue many policies, especially the deployment of train marshals inside stations and trains.“Meron po tayong train marshals upang tignan kung naipapatupad o nao-observe ng ating mga pasahero yung ating seven commandments [in public transportation] (We have train marshals to monitor whether passengers are complying with the seven commandments),” Eje said. While wearing of the face shield is no longer mandatory in areas under Alert Level 1 to 3, he encouraged the passengers to wear it as additional protection against Covid-19.“Sa mga pasahero po, dapat lamang na kung sa tingin nila mas safe sila na may face shield, mas maganda pong gamitin. Pero kung walang face shield okay lang naman po (To our passengers, if they feel safer with a face shield, it’s better they use it. But even without it, it’ll be okay),” Eje said.He also urged the passengers to continue following the minimum health standards approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) to protect themselves and others from Covid-19 infections.“Ang amin po ay pagpapatupad lamang ng mga polisiya ngunit ang pagsunod po rito ay nakasalalay po sa inyong kooperasyon (We are merely responsible for enforcing these policies, it is up to you to follow them),” Eje said.Under Alert Level 2, passengers, drivers, and other transport workers are still required to wear face masks, no talking and making phone calls, no eating, ensure that vehicles are well ventilated, frequent disinfection, not allow the entry of those with Covid-19 symptoms, and to follow appropriate physical distancing.
