QC allows essential infra projects despite MECQ status

MANILA – The Quezon City government is allowing construction activities of essential projects during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until Aug. 31.A guideline posted by the QC government on Monday listed essential public and private construction projects allowed in the city include projects that will address the Covid-19 pandemic.The list includes health, quarantine, or isolation facilities for close contact exposure, suspect, and probable cases, and confirmed Covid-19 patients; facilities for the health sector workers; and vaccination centers or facilities or infrastructure projects necessary for the supply, distribution, and administration of vaccines.The city government also allows construction workers for emergency and disaster risk situations.The city government included in the list of essential projects educational facilities and government structures, offices and buildings, as well as sewerage projects such as water service facilities.“Priority public infrastructure project, which shall include roads, bridges, flood control, and active transport facilities, and priority private infrastructure projects,” the guidelines read.The QC government added that the Department of Public Works and Highways clarified that essential small-scale projects such as residential or housing may also be allowed in areas under MECQ.All projects must comply with safety and health protocols, the QC government reminded.
