THE Creamline Cool Smashers knew they were not getting any younger.
So the first order of business for the 11-time league champion in the PVL on Tour was to embrace the youth movement.
And that the proud franchise did as they broke in their brand new recruits in that impressive 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19 victory over Nxled in Ilaga City, Isabela on Wednesday.
“I’m happy that the team performed well even though some of our seniors weren’t able to play,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses, referring to absences of team captain Alyssa Valdez, Pangs Panaga, Kyla Atienza, Jen Nierva and Jia de Guzman due to various reasons.
And sure the young bloods like setter Donnalyn Mae Paralejas, Ishie Lalongisip, and Sheena Toring did well.
Ms. Paralejas, a setter who last suited up for Petro Gazz, stole the show and was especially impressive in the opening set where she was fully utilized by a confident Mr. Meneses.
Ms. Lalongisip, who was recruited from Cignal, filled the spiking void left by Ms. Valdez and scattered nine hits while Ms. Toring, a sophomore middle blocker, fearlessly roamed up front and fired six hits.
Barbie Jamili, a rookie from Adamson, gave a glimpse of her talent as well as Erin Pangilinan, who was tabbed from Cignal.
“This is important that they can experience games like this one,” said Mr. Meneses. “Actually, we talked to all of them and we told them that they are pros now and they need to really work hard and enjoy being with Creamline.”
“They are strong-willed, they follow instructions and I hope they will continue playing like this,” he added.
