ALEXANDRA “ALEX” EALA is set for a homecoming to meet Filipino fans before she sets to the hardcourt season in the United States later this month.

On the heels of a magical Wimbledon run, Ms. Eala will be in the country on July 15 at the Glorrieta Activity Center in Makati City for “Home Court: The Alex Eala Fan Meet Experience” hosted by Globe, where she serves as a Gen G Ambassador.

The event will be open to the public although details on access are still to be provided.

Ms. Eala, who is expected to arrive as early as this weekend, will share stories from her Wimbledon journey and her preparations for the next Grand Slam, which is the US Open on Aug. 30 to Sept. 13 in New York.

“We celebrate the homecoming of the Filipina tennis star following her inspiring Wimbledon campaign — a journey that showcased not only her world-class talent, but also the resilience, grit, and courage that continue to inspire millions of Filipinos, especially the youth,” said in the announcement.

“Alex embodies what it means to pursue greatness with purpose. Through her discipline, humility, and determination to break barriers, she represents the values of a generation that’s ready to dream bigger, work harder, and create a positive impact. Be part of this special evening.”

This will be Ms. Eala’s second homecoming in Manila this year after headlining the Philippine Women’s Open in January at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex following a banner year that catapulted her to the No. 29 in the world rankings.

But this time, she’ll be returning to the Philippine shores with bigger, grander achievements under her belt.

Ms. Eala achieved the following for Philippine tennis in the Wimbledon, considered as the mecca of tennis at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London: the first Filipina seeded player in Grand Slam history, the first Filipina match winner in Wimbledon and also the first to reach the third and fourth rounds of a major respectively.

That run included an Earth-shaking 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 upset of reigning champion and world No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland that made headlines around the globe and drew reactions and praises from the likes of Catherine, Princess of Wales, Billie Jean King, Venus Williams and Ms. Eala’s super idol Maria Sharapova.

Marvel stars, too, albeit her campaign ended in the Round of 16 with a 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 defeat against Jasmine Paolini of Italy.

Overall, Ms. Eala had a stellar grass season with a 12-4 record highlighted by netting her second career title in Birmingham and a semifinal finish in Berlin, where she toppled world No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan and No. 8 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

Ms. Eala has now beaten seven Top 10 players after Wimbledon, looking to ride on this momentum as she transitions to the hardcourt season starting with the Mubadala DC Open at Washington D.C., on July 27.

She’s also projected to slug it out at the Cincinnati Open, Toronto Open and other WTA Tour stops leading up to the US Open in Flushing Meadows as the season’s final Grand Slam.

But first things first as Ms. Eala for now will recharge at home and celebrate with her compatriots before waging war once again with the tennis world titans. — John Bryan Ulanday
