Taytay, Rizal — August 26, 2025.

It was a day filled with smiles, gratitude, and celebration as the Rotary Club of Metro East Taytay (RCMET) proudly turned over its Canopy for Learners and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Project to the delighted students and teachers of San Juan Elementary School Annex.

The occasion marked not just the completion of a project, but the beginning of brighter, happier school days for more than 1,437 students and 28 teachers who will now enjoy a safer and more comfortable learning environment.

A Gift to the School Community

What once were challenges—studying outdoors under trees with only trapal sheets for cover and using an outdated, unsafe washing area—have now been replaced with facilities that bring joy and relief:

  • A new Canopy for Learners, giving students a weatherproof communal space for classes and activities;

  • A refurbished WASH station, promoting cleanliness, health, and confidence;

  • And thoughtful additions of ceiling fans, bright lighting, and electrical outlets, creating a cooler, well-lit, and functional space for all.

The children’s smiles and the teachers’ gratitude during the turnover reflected the true impact of the project—a school transformed into a happier, healthier place to learn and grow.

Service with Heart

Guided by RCMET President Donato “Don” G. Santiago, with the dedication of Service Project Chair PP Ariel Espino, Project Owner Rtn. Rolando Panlaqui, and Project Coordinator Rtn. Milagros Javier, the project came to life in just one month. From the ocular visits in early August to the construction and refurbishment works, every step was done with care and love for the community.

The joy was shared by Principal Dr. Melchor T. Tagudando, the teachers, parents, and students, who all warmly welcomed Rotary’s contribution. The atmosphere during the inauguration was one of partnership, gratitude, and shared success.

Happiness that Lasts

This project is more than a structure—it is a legacy of joy, hope, and opportunity. It embodies Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, and Community Development, while showing the community that service can truly make life brighter.

“Seeing the students and teachers happy makes all the effort worthwhile,” said President Don Santiago. “This project is not just about facilities—it’s about creating smiles, building dreams, and making sure every child has the chance to learn in a safe and happy environment.”

A Celebration of Unity

As the Rotary markers were unveiled, they stood not just as symbols of service but as reminders of the joy that comes from working together for the good of others. With this milestone, RCMET once again proves that when people unite for good, they create not only change—but lasting happiness.
