“Felt” (Single)“Remember that time you first heard your favourite band? Remember the prickles on your neck and the rising chills and waves of euphoria that seemed to crash against each other? Remember playing that one song over and over, pausing it to catch the lyrics so you could sing along? Tiberius is your new favourite band. ‘Sag’ is that song.” – GOD IS IN THE TV ZINE
“A combination of indie rock, punk and psychedelic sensibilities tied together by alt-country twang and as capable of rich ambient drift as it is punk fury or confessional emotion.” – VARIOUS SMALL FLAMES
On August 15th, Boston-based “Farm Emo” band Tiberius will release “Felt,” the emotional and erratic second single taken from ‘Troubadour,’ their label debut album.
Originally a solo outing for songwriter Brendan Wright (they/them), the lineup has evolved into a catchy and cacophonous four-piece with a sound that blends Indie Punk, Alt Country and Psychedelia with confessional, conversational lyrics. After a series of self-releases, which received support from Northeastern outlets including Allston Pudding, Penny Mag, WKDU, and WIRE, ‘Troubadour’ sees Tiberius debut for Audio Antihero (Frog / Avery Friedman / CIAO MALZ).
“Felt” was preceded by “Sag,” the album’s lead single on July 18th, a lyrically conflicted song about the “Allston to Bushwick pipeline,” which was praised by local and international music sites alike, in addition to airplay from stations including BBC Radio Scotland, WNYU, WVKR, WSUM, WORT, Brainrot Radio, Radio Free Brooklyn, and WMBR.
As the second taste of the upcoming LP, “Felt” is a sonically dynamic song about heartbreak and the lives of strangers. Building on the genre-bending sound of “Sag,” the new single combines Midwest Emo energy with Alt Country warmth and twang. Speaking on the song, Wright shares:
“When I wrote Felt, I was fairly fresh out of a breakup and was spending a lot of time looking for distractions. Instead of tackling some bigger questions and engaging in a healthy recovery, I was tucking away my feelings into compartments and distracting myself with casual dating. I was spending some late nights slipping into the backstories of strangers’ lives – exhilarating, but merely theatrical. It never eased the issue at hand. I was alone, and I was terrified to sit with that.“ – Brendan Wright (Read More)

Lyrics:
“I’ve been trying to move rocks but my arms won’t budge
My back foot treads as I chip my tooth
And now I’m getting pissed off at all of the dudes
For the lack of excitement
Like a package that mom sent being left on the porch and out in the rain
While over looking for love,
but now you’re looking insane in front of stranger’s apartments
With feelings held in compartments just out of reach
Left you drunk and ashamed despite of everything being okay
It’s supposed to be this way
I’ve been okay
I’m feeling sick to my stomach despite trying to hide it
She said when I was her age that she drove cross country
Her brother left her out in Albuquerque over a girl that they wanted
She found her way up to Denver where she slept with a man by the name of Alvaro
English broken, she fell in love for two weeks
He still writes her letters, with the pen of a fifth grader
I’m just as old as her daughter just a few years ahead
Are you having a good time?
I wasn’t sure what I’d expect to find,
I laughed, I am
But as soon as driving home
It hit that I am still alone
I wouldn’t outgrow the pain of any single day
It sucks to be alive sometimes
But I’m living long enough to write it down
So I’ll have time to figure it out
But I feel the same now”

Artist Statement for ‘Troubaour’ Album (November 14th):
“For most of my life, I defined myself almost completely on who I was in relation to others – my friends, my family, and my relationships. Troubadour was written in a short period of time where these relationships changed significantly, and it felt as if I underwent complete ego death. For months, I felt insane but inevitably found solace in nature and the constant of the trees. For a period, I felt utterly connected to the universe in a way that was completely outside my sense of self. I was everything all at once, and it was one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had. And it was hard. And I think I was lucky enough to capture it in these 10 tracks.” – Brendan Wright
Praise for Tiberius:
“On a crash-course collision with greatness…” – PENNY MAG
“In “Sag” Wright distills the agony of band life–the tantalizing proximity to success, the toll it can take on your psyche–into punchy couplets. There’s a great line about “dragging amps and dragging ass,” and once it’s time to “play a show, play a show, play a show,” they sound utterly exhausted.” – ALLSTON PUDDING
“The blistering spool of alt-rock catches vocalist and guitarist Brendan Wright “aggrandizing self-importance,” thrashing to the sound of their own existential unease.” – VANYALAND
“Whatever it is this is a fine fine song, a piece of music full of warm emotion, three cheers indeed, a crafted piece of music that builds so well, a piece of music that has us wanting to hear more of the forthcoming album.” – THE ORGAN
“Bostonian indie band Tiberius is the brainchild of Brendan Wright, who mixes grunge of the Pearl Jam variety with a bit of college rock to end up with something called “farm emo”.”
– HERE COMES THE FLOOD
“Things really spring into life when the whole band hits upon something a little more aggressive however, and when attacking at full volume, the love for Superchunk and Dinosaur Jr makes a superb contrast to the hazier vibes set in place elsewhere. Wonderfully nostalgic but without feeling dated, ‘Sag’ offers the more discerning rock fan a world of entertainment in under four minutes.” – REAL GONE
“A dreamy coming-of-age must-listen.” – NOTION
“Their latest single, “Sag,” is one of the most interesting tracks I’ve heard in a while…It definitely edges into emo territory, but more Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate emo than Top 40 emo. It’s one of those songs that you’ll want to go back and listen again to make sure you just heard what you think you heard. While many artists of today are melding genres into a new sound, Tiberius have seemingly invented a genre of their own.” – IF IT’S TOO LOUDOther Singles from Tiberius:
“Sag” (Out Now)
“Sag is about this dreaded ‘Allston to Bushwick’ pipeline we have in Boston. A lot of musicians end up using Boston to cut their teeth before heading off to New York or LA to pursue their music careers. I wrote ‘Sag’ when I was really playing the ‘comparison game’ in my head, and asking myself what role I wanted music to play in my life. It was the first in a batch about looking at yourself in relation to the others around you, and trying to decipher who you are without that context..” – Brendan Wright“Moab” (9/12)
“Moab was a song I wrote about trying to let go. At the time I was defining myself by expectations of a strained relationship. I was feeling pretty insane – like the kind of insane you feel back in 8th grade where you come home crying all of the time because you have absolutely no sense of self. Writing ‘Moab’ offered catharsis. Looking back, I feel a lot of embarrassment around those feelings, – but it was how I felt at the time and that was the place I was in. I wish I had acted differently, and I strive to now.” – Brendan Wright“Painting of a Tree” (10/10)
“There’s this older man I work with – a kooky gentleman who’s kind of off his rocker – but at the same time can incite this erudite understanding of the human condition. When I asked him if he had any advice for someone really mulling over some heartache, he chuckled. He said, “an artist cannot paint a tree, unless they examine all aspects of it.” I wrote, Painting of a Tree, as an homage to this idea that this kind of hurt was a truly human experience. A kind of pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but something that I feel thankful to have experienced. The kind of pain that makes us who we are.” – Brendan Wright
